BIOGRAPHY
Sarah Natoli knew early on that a future as a camera operator was the right path for her. In the beginning of her career she worked on sets as a film loader, 2nd AC and eventually a 1st AC Focus Puller. When a position became available to shoot on an unscripted television series, she jumped at the opportunity. That decision alone changed the course of her career.
For the past two decades Natoli has shot everything from unscripted television, documentary features, documentary series, fashion shows, music videos, live entertainment and commercials. Her vast resume has taken her all around the globe and spread her content across all entertainment platforms. Her work has been seen on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, ABC, NBC, CBS, Disney, Comedy Central, Food Network, TLC, BET, Lifetime and The Sundance Channel.
For the past 4 years Natoli has taken on the role of Director of Photography. “I love being the DP and creating a different lighting palette for each story we are telling. It’s exciting when the color palate evolves into a mood we’ve never seen before,” says Natoli. Natoli’s Director of Photography projects have been as colorful as her lighting design. She has DP’d everything from an investigative documentary series to a high-end fashion documentary short for the Tribeca Film Festival. “I have a passion for feel good documentaries that tell a story of peoples accomplishments. A highlight of my career was DP’ing the documentary feature Assembly Required: Teyana Taylor’s House of Petunia. This film followed American singer-songwriter Teyana Taylor as she created her dream concert. Documenting this process with her from the beginning of her creation until she stepped onstage at the legendary Red Bull Music Festival, was an amazing experience.”
Another project that impacted Natoli was the emotionally powerful documentary series Taken At Birth. This series told the story of Dr. Thomas Hicks who sold babies illegally in the 1950s and 1960s. Taken At Birth followed a team of investigators as they attempted to solve the mysteries behind these cases while reuniting these stolen babies with their biological families. Natoli was the Co-Director of Photography for the series.
Most recently Natoli was the Director of Photography for a series of music videos for artist Azia. For Azia’s visual album, currently titled Brooklyn Is King, Natoli experimented with lighting and unique angles to create an immersive visual experience.
When Natoli is not the DP’ing projects, she loves operating for music, comedy and live entertainment. Whether it’s Netflix comedy specials, Pre -Grammy showcases or Oprah’s book club, she enjoys it all.
“I love what I do and want to continue to apply my style to a variety of projects.”
Sarah Natoli is based out of New York and is a member of the Local 600 as well as the Society of Camera Operators.
